polls: Campaigning for 1st phase reaches feverish pitch

just four days left for campaigning to end for the first phase of the
Assembly elections in Gujarat, electioneering has reached a feverish pitch
in the state. Star campaigners of all political parties are holding
back-to-back public meetings in a bid to win the voters. Prime
Minister Narendra Modi held public meetings in Bharuch, Surendranagar and
Rajkot on Sunday, while on Monday he will hold rallies in Dharampur,
Bhavnagar, Junagadh and Rajkot.
Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi will reach the state tomorrow to hold
a series of rallies for three days.
Of the 182 seats, 89 of Kutch, Saurashtra and South Gujarat will go to
polls in the first phase on Saturday.
AIR correspondent reports that all efforts are being made to ensure voter
Over 17 lakh new voters have been added in the Electoral Roll out of which
more than 12.37 lakh are first time voters in the age group of 18-19
Electorsí Photo Identity Cards, EPIC cards are being diributed to newly
District Election Officers have been directed to ensure that Photo Voter
Slips are issued to all eligible voters at least seven days before the day
of polls in all the 182 assembly constituencies.
More than Rs. 35 crore worth of assets, cash and liquor have been seized
by flying squads, surveillance teams in Gujarat till the first of this
977 candidates are in the fray in first phase for 89 seats of Kutch,
Saurashtra and South Gujarat.
